BACKGROUND:The shortage of blood units is a worldwide concern and Philippine Children’s Medical Center-Pediatric Blood Center is no exception. Despite being operational for the past 17 years, no concrete data on number of donor deferrals, either temporarily or permanently, has been gathered in a specific time frame. Subsequently, no research has been made to establish the donor deferrals in relation to gender, age group and occupational background in the Philippine Children’s Medical Center-Pediatric Blood Center. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to determine the number of donors deferred and factors for donor deferrals in the Pediatric Blood Bank of Philippine Children’s Medical Center from January 2016 to December 2017.
