Gastrointestinal infections are often encountered infections in primary care caused by virus, bacteria and parasites. The gastrointestinal infections involve gastroenteritis or the inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract including both the stomach and the small intestine. Gastrointestinal infections are caused by a large number of microorganisms like Campylobacter, Adenovirus, Clostridium difficile, Rotavirus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella etc. All age groups are affected by the gastrointestinal infections.
